About JH Peace Initiative
About Us
JH Peace is a faculty-led Program at Johns Hopkins University including experts from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the School of Medicine, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and active Syrian organizations on the ground.
Our Mission
Leverage innovative interdisciplinary collaborations at Johns Hopkins to
1. develop evidence evidence-base peace initiatives, and
2. educate a new generation of peace practitioners from different disciplines, to solve real world conflicts.
3. Support interdisciplinary peacebuilding initiative to solve real world conflict from around the globe
Our Team
- Majd AlGhatrif, MD, MA (Co-director): Dr. AlGhatrif is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University with international expertise in conflict transformation, community organization, and health services, and peacebuilding initiatives.
- Daniel Serwer, Ph.D. (Co-director): Dr. Serwer is a senior fellow at SAIS with extensive expertise in conflict management and American foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East.
- Yusra Shawar, Ph.D.: Dr. Shawar specializes in the politics of health policymaking, examining how power dynamics influence health initiatives and their role in peacebuilding.
- Youseph Yazdi, Ph. D is the executive director of the Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design (CBID) with a focus on applying engineering design elements to solving real world problems.
